The SB Mixtape, 1/25/2024: … If It Kills Me

I can’t speak for anyone else, but the last two months of my life have been not particularly fabulous. In no particular order, my job tried to kill me with unneeded overwork, I got three traffic tickets (only one of which was valid), Christmas drama, family drama — yes, those are separate –, the road trip from hell, a polar vortex, car maintenance that froze my eyelashes, other family drama, and I can’t find my ballet tickets. Thus, I have been channeling the Mountain Goats hard: I am going to make it through if it kills me.

“If it kills me” is not being driven by spite — though it’s in there. But this is when spite, exhaustion and frustration all coalesce into a mass of resigned forward movement. It’s not that I want to keep pushing forward, it’s that I don’t have another option. I will finally turn a corner, or I’ll die, and either way, it’s over. But woman cannot live on “This Year” alone, and K-pop has plenty of songs to drag yourself along to as you summon the will to get through just one more day.
